CEA Human Resources and Consulting provides the following update on the

Equal Remuneration Claim by the Australian Services Union.

  • On 10th November 2011, the Prime Minister advised that the ASU and the Federal Government have reached agreement on the ASU claim for equal pay for community sector workers and would jointly take that position forward to the Full Bench of Fair Work Australia.
  • The Prime Minister committed to equal pay for the community sector and supported the Queensland rates of pay outcome in the Queensland equal pay case in 2009. This would result in increases averaging 20% and up to 33% in some cases.
  • The Prime Minister advised that if the Full Bench of Fair Work Australia agreed to the government-union proposal, Ms Gillard said the fairer pay rate would start from 1st December 2012 at a cost of $2 billion over a six year phase-in period.
  • The Equal Remuneration Claim is scheduled for further hearings before a Full Bench of Fair Work Australia on 28th November 2011.

We will keep you informed of further developments.
